We’ve teamed up with Libro.FM and Silent Book Club to host a #BannedBooksWeek Read-In to celebrate your freedom to read. Bring a book of your choice, and we will all silently read together. Information about the rise in censorship and book challenges will also be provided. Attendees will receive a free digital audiobook copy of Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books.

Join us for a fun and educational night hosted by our Library Clerk, Arwen. Arwen spent three months in Morocco this past spring, completing her bachelor's degree in International studies. She is excited to share with you her experiences in another country and the culture she discovered. 

Work on your family history research, use our resources, or ask for assistance with a brick wall. For internet-based research you may bring your own device. For adults and interested youth aged 10+. This month will feature Laurie Johnson of the Marquette County Genealogical Society who will present on the resources available at the MCGS’s Archive and Resource Center.

Certified yoga instructor, Kristen Carlson will be at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library to lead a session of Chair Yoga! Accessible to both beginners and those more experienced with yoga. Event is free.

Help us to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Silent Book Club Global Readathon! The goal is to have the largest collection of reader gatherings in the world!

Join us at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library to read and craft with others. Bring your own book of choice to read silently for 1 hour with fellow bookworms, followed by time to socialize and talk about books. There will also be the opportunity to craft various bookmarks! Open to adults and teens.

This class will give attendees an introduction to basketry techniques taught by a local basket maker. Materials and supplies will be provided. Class is for adults. Join us for a presentation from local paranormal group Yooper Paranormal on paranormal investigation and equipment, and discuss their latest findings on both local and national hauntings.

Join us for stories, songs, and movement activities followed by an optional craft and playtime! Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers!

*Storytime on the 28th will be a Halloween Party that will take place off-site at the Ishpeming Senior Center.*

 What is it about lighthouses that attract ghostly spirits? Maybe it’s simply a passion that will not go away. Lighthouse keepers were known to be extremely dedicated to their profession and it seems that many were never able to give it up — even after death. More than 30 lights in Michigan are rumored to be haunted. From the smell of cigar smoke at Seul Choix Point Light to the mysterious housekeeping at White River Light Station and the antics at Waugoshance Shoal, these stories will entertain all ages. This popular program is coming from the pages of “Michigan’s Haunted Lighthouses” —  a book by Dianna Stampfler, published in spring 2019 by The History Press. Join us as Dianna Stampfler takes us on this haunted journey at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library.
